John "The Real Dig" Trigg
John Trigg is no stranger to fighting. He grew up the next to the youngest of six children in various small towns throughout metro Atlanta.
Right after his first amateur fight, a tragic house fire took the life of his seven year old baby brother and two nephews ages 12 and 9. His dreams were nearly destroyed as he watched the bodies of his family members being carried out of the ashen heap. His heart and his spirit had been broken and the fire took him down a road of destruction that lasted for years. Then the true fighter reemerged in Trigg as he used the flames of the past to fuel another type of fire within. More...
The devastating tragedy he experienced in his youth would have been enough to make most men give up the battle. However, Trigg is not like most men. He only grew stronger as he continued to press forward finding his healing in the sport of boxing.
Trigg did not start his professional boxing career until he was almost 22 years old, getting a very late start compared to most of his competitors. His stature may seem meek but for those who have fought against him, they know that there is a lion stirring within the 135 pound frame.
Trigg is no stranger to the spotlight. He has fought in venues all over the world and been featured on ESPN and HBO. He was even referred to as the journeyman by local newspapers. A journeyman is a boxer who has little or no expectation of winning his fights, thus he is said to be "along for the journey". Journeymen are known to be competent boxers who possess solid boxing skills and the ability to absorb punishment. Not only did Trigg absorb a lifetime of punishment in his 10 year boxing career but he also dispensed a little of his own abuse to any opponent with enough nerve to step in the ring with him.
His wins were unanimous and his losses were often debatable. His opponents always left the ring with a new found respect for the man who just gave them the fight of their lives. Trigg's performances always excited the crowds and his fan base grew with every new bout.
Trigg has fought tough competition his whole career including world champions like Juan Diaz, Nate Campbell and Roberto Garcia. In December 2005, Trigg decided to retire after 49 professional bouts. However, the lion within still stirred and in April of 2007, this fighter had a change of heart. John Trigg announced that he would be coming out of retirement and he is currently training to go back into the sport that has become the core of his survival. Close...
